What Did You Get Done Last Week?

One of my weekly spreads for the coming month. Sort of Bullet Journal meets Daytimer, plus diary. The trackers are for Writing time, Reading, French practice, Exercise and routine Chores. Below that is an ongoing writing time tracker for the month. I swap out elements and change formats all the time depending upon my needs and mood. It's all good. And usually colorful.

Shhh. Listen... That gleeful snickering you're hearing is from the Bullet Journalists, Planning Geeks, Notebook Nerds and other Organizing Hobbyists happily rubbing our hands and brain cells together in response to Elon Musk's recent question "What did you get done this week?" Seeing all the controversy is curious. Back when I was working for a State that shall go nameless, we had to do this every week. It was called "one-liners." We gave our list to our boss and all the bosses compiled lists for their bosses and it eventually all got filtered and sorted and compiled a day later into a report that the Deputy Director sent to the Governor & Legislature. Some of that report wound up getting printed (hard copy & digital) as a summary that was sent to journalists and PACs and various Federal folk and anyone else who cared. Reporting on What You Did Last Week is neither a new practice nor even a new idea.

Politics aside (Really. I mean it. STOP IT!), this is a question which We the Routinely Prepared are uniquely qualified to answer. We ask this question of ourselves every week, month, year even though we usually are the only ones to see the answers. I recommend this practice. It's a great way to not wake up 52 days/weeks/years later only to wonder where the hell your days/weeks/life went.

So, here are my Bullet Points for the past seven days:

  • Prepared and submitted for adjudication and service an Order of Protection against a past abuser who refuses to leave me the hell alone despite a legal name change and at least seven Cease & Desist letters over the past 35 years specifically telling him to have no contact with me. (In addition to messaging me on Facebook, he also sent me an email through my professional website immediately after I blocked him on Facebook. He must really need money. Or narcissistic supply.) The Order of Protection process was about as painless as the legal system could make it. They got me in and meeting with the Judge in less than three hours, didn't charge me anything and provided an electronic copy of the judgment for me to send to the agency who'll be serving the Order (also no charge.) He has the legal right to challenge the Order in an in-person Hearing, assuming he wants to drive 1,600 miles. The Judge gently warned me of this; it was upsetting until, in the midst of some Meditation on the issue, a toggle switch in me got flipped and I realized I'm just not going to be afraid of him anymore. The minute I hit "send" to have him served, I knew I'd done the right thing. No means no, even if you have to say it umpteen times over 35 years.

  • Hung out and "supervised" while a nice guy did half of a remodel on my 63-year-old master bath. I say "half" a remodel because Nice Guy just got really pale, went outside to barf and eventually had to leave with maybe stomach flu or food poisoning. If one of their jobs had to be delayed, this is probably the ideal one because I have a full second bathroom I can live out of in the meantime. Send get well wishes to J in Arizona.

  • Roasted a boat ton of vegetables but burnt the pan in the process. Helpful Hint: the baking soda + vinegar + elbow grease combo really works!

  • Did three loads of laundry. My laundry is ALL FOLDED!

  • Cleaned up the latest wave of windfall tangerines from the tree out in the yard. Yes, they're tasty. (I mean, the ones that I harvest off the tree are. Never eat windfall anything. It's got bugs!)

  • Added links to recent blog posts to the home page on this website.

  • Outlined some fiction. Wrote some fiction. It's... rocky at this point, but I persevere.

  • Note to self -- Saw my first lizard of the year. Spring's coming! 🦎
